Hamilton-Grampians Pipeline

The Hamilton-Grampians Pipeline was officially launched by the Premier and Water Minister on 16 July 2010.

An important new link in the Victorian Water Grid, the Pipeline is securing the Hamilton and surrounding town’s future water needs by supplying up to 2 billion litres of water annually from Rocklands Reservoir in the Grampians. The 2 billion litres of water per year for the pipeline will come from savings generated by the Wimmera Mallee Pipeline project.

The 52 km pipeline connects the Rocklands Reservoir to the existing Grampians Headworks pipeline east of Cavendish.

The pipeline will improve water availability in the Hamilton area and significantly reduce the likelihood of restrictions being applied in the future.

Construction of the $22 million pipeline and pump station commenced in April 2009 and was completed on schedule in June 2010.

The total project cost of $26 million was well within the budget estimate of $30 million.

The total project costs included $4 million for the purchase of 2 billion litres of water for the pipeline from Grampians Wimmera Mallee Water.

The Victorian Government provided a funding grant of $10 million as the project was a key action of the Our Water Our Future: Next Stage of the Government’s Water Plan and is an important new link in the Victorian Water Grid.

Funding

The State Government contributed $10 million towards the project. This is on top of the Government’s $266 million investment in the Wimmera Mallee Pipeline.

Water bills for customers in the Hamilton area will also increase to cover the cost of the pipeline. Contact Wannon Water for further details.
