Project Scope
Victoria’s desalination plant will be the largest in Australia, capable of supplying about one third of Melbourne’s annual water needs.
It will supply up to 150 billion litres of water a year, independent of rainfall, to Melbourne, Geelong, and regional towns in South Gippsland and Western Port.
The project includes an 84km underground pipeline to connect the plant to a transfer main at Berwick and then to Cardinia Reservoir.
The plant will be powered by an 87km underground power supply co-located in the same easement with the pipeline. All of the power used for the plant and pipeline will be offset through the purchase of renewable energy credits sourced by AquaSure through AGL.
The project includes installation of fibre optic cable which will facilitate broadband to communities.
